Abstract

The present article is the beginning of a study that seeks to establish common ground between the philosophy of Emmanuel Levinas and the Spanish philosophy developed through the method of vital reason (razón vital) by Ortega y Gasset and Julián Marías. Through an introduction to vital reason and its understanding of philosophy, as well as the coincidences in the origins of both philosophies stemming from their concern for concrete reality and their shared phenomenological inspiration Through this, we offer areading of Levinas and his method that reveals a reason beyond ontology, understood as metaphysical Desire and responsibility.
